Development Engineer (mechanical profile) – Heerhugowaard

Central role in engineering within small specialized player in high-end manufacturing

For 60 years, Geerts Metaalwaren in North Holland has been Europe’s specialist in the field of seamless forming (deep drawing) of metals into, for example, cylinders, although all shapes and forms of post-processing are feasible. With its modern machinery and many years of expertise, it is a supplier for applications in the medical, food, petrochemical and energy sectors. With a proud and motivated team of approximately 30 employees, Geerts delivers unique products. Its customers are builders of international equipment and systems who are looking for innovative, high-quality solutions.

The deep drawing of metals produces the most fantastic end products, but it is also a delicate process because of the change in metal properties. Geerts Metaalwaren is fully committed to the latest modelling techniques in order to improve the quality of its processes and thus the time to market. In doing so, it can rely on the expertise present in its own tool shop and production facilities.

Geerts Metaalwaren has the ambition to become the best player in Europe in the specialism of deep drawing and shaping metal.

In this position, you literally shape the end products to be made, which are ‘drawn’ out of a sheet of steel by tools you have developed.

You are involved in the process right from the customer’s request. Together with sales, you provide input for quotations by substantiating price indications or a detailed cost price calculation. When a quotation becomes an order, you lead the engineering process and you monitor the agreements made about planning and budget. You will ensure that a specific mould/tool is realised in 12 to 16 weeks. First, you will design the tool in SolidWorks and work together with a specialist colleague who can predict the behaviour of the material on the tool using simulation software. This enables you to further refine your design before it is produced in the toolshop. You then give instructions to the toolshop about your design and support them with technical advice during the production of the tool.

When the tool is ready, you transfer it to production and you are involved in the first test runs. In this phase, you can advise on further adjustments to the tool before final customer production with the mould.

You have a higher (vocational) degree in Mechanical Engineering or in Industrial Product Design (IPO). You have also been active for several years in a role as an engineer or as a tool or product developer, or similar experiences. Within a small team, you know how to work pleasantly with everyone and you are open in your communication.

The work is project based, so you must be able to work from A to Z according to plan. This also requires a cost-conscious and efficient working attitude.

Non Dutch speaking engineers are welcome, provided that you are already living in the Netherlands with a valid EU passport or a Zoekjaar visa.

The prospect of a permanent job, the opportunity to expand your expertise, an excellent salary (between €3,200 and €4,750 gross/month). A sound pension scheme from the collective labour agreement (cao Grootmetaal) as well as 27 days off and 13 non-working days
