Senior Engineer WTB – Amsterdam
Introduction
As a Senior WTB Engineer at Royal Van Lent in Amsterdam, you design the mechanical systems of one-off superyachts. Mechanical engineering is broad, so you are assigned a specific field that matches your experience and interest — such as piping, HVAC, or machinery.
Function
In this role you translate design requirements into workable, manufacturable solutions within your field. You:
- translate design input into calculations, system diagrams, and detailed 3D models;
safeguard the quality and accuracy of your engineering work; - give technical direction to engineers and apprentices, carry out inspections, and coach where needed;
- make sure the work meets industry regulations, classification societies, and flag state requirements;
- trace technical bottlenecks and resolve them together with the disciplines involved;
- review drawings and documentation before they are submitted;
- contribute to sharper engineering standards, working methods, and innovation;
- coordinate technical requirements and feasibility with production, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Organization
Royal Van Lent, part of Feadship, builds one-off superyachts at the highest level. In 2019 the yard opened its ultramodern dock hall in the western harbour area of Amsterdam, with room for yachts up to 160 metres. Besides newbuild, the yard also handles refits. Every yacht is a single, custom project built over an average of four years — a place where engineering and craftsmanship come together under uncompromising quality standards.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience as an engineer in shipbuilding.
- Working knowledge of 3D AutoCAD, Teamcenter, and Cadmatic.
- Good command of English, spoken and written.
- Experience with exterior engineering, moving equipment, and equipment integration.
- Insight into cable and panel planning, onboard systems, and weight and budgeting.
- Thorough technical understanding of yacht building and production and construction
- processes.
- In analytical approach and a high standard for quality and results.
Offer
- You are paid according to the same terms of employment as a permanent Royal Van Lent employee. As this is a placement, the client’s collective labour agreement (cao) applies to you in full — equal pay is required by Dutch law (inlenersbeloning), so you earn what someone in this position at Royal Van Lent earns.
- The max of this scale is 85.000 gross per year.
- A technically advanced and stable working environment where you work on the most exclusive yachts in the world.
- A role with direct influence on the manufacturability and quality of every project you touch.
